General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has accused some party members of attempting to shield individuals facing possible prosecution through backdoor negotiations.
Speaking at the 5th Annual General Conference of NDC Lawyers, Mr. Kwetey alleged that certain figures within the party were “cutting deals” with suspects, a development he warned could damage the NDC’s credibility and derail its anti-corruption agenda.
“Many among us, despite pleas and pressure that punishment must be properly meted, are busy trying to cut deals with people who are supposed to be prosecuted,” he said.
“Some are becoming conduits through whom pressure is being brought to bear on those who must do what is right. I may not mention names, but a time will come when we may have to,” he added.
The NDC General Secretary reaffirmed the party’s commitment to Operation Recover All Loots, a campaign aimed at retrieving assets allegedly lost through corruption and ensuring offenders are held accountable.
He urged the Attorney General and his team to remain steadfast in the face of pressure.
“Attorney General, please continue to be strong, continue to be firm. If you succumb, the problem will be you,” he stressed.
Mr. Kwetey further warned that those shielding corrupt officials today may later accuse the Attorney General of inefficiency.
“The people want what is right, and what is right needs to be done,” he concluded.
