The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has urged students of the Design and Technology Institute (DTI) to harness their creativity, dream boldly, and use their talents to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Speaking at the National Theatre ahead of the annual staging of Maria’s Love Story, Hon. Gomashie drew from her personal journey in the creative arts to emphasize the transformative power of theatre and artistic expression.
“Don’t limit yourselves,” she told the students. “Challenge your imagination and use every opportunity to grow.”
She praised President John Dramani Mahama for appointing a seasoned creative professional to lead the tourism, culture and creative arts portfolio, underscoring the vital role of artists in shaping national identity and advancing Ghana’s development agenda.
Hon. Gomashie reminded the students that they represent both DTI and the nation and encouraged them to make the most of their unique access to quality technical and creative education.
“If this country is going to do well, it must respect those of us who create. Our culture, which fuels tourism, is shaped by storytellers, painters, poets, and artisans,” she said.
She further challenged the students to use their training to uplift others:
“You have something many children in the country do not have. If you don’t make it count, then you have shortchanged Miss Constance Swaniker and all those investing in your future,” she added, in reference to the institute’s founder.
Joining the Minister at the event were the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, an architect by profession and role model for the design students; and Mr. Divine Owusu Ansah, Director of Culture and Creative Arts at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
The Design and Technology Institute (DTI) is a leading institution in Ghana dedicated to technical and vocational education, combining hands-on industrial training with creative innovation.
The institute seeks to become West Africa’s foremost hub for industrial job training and prototype development.
