The Acting Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Daniella Mawusi Ntow, has condemned assault on fire personnel by unscrupulous individuals and has assured that any attack on fire personnel or fire engine by any person will face the full rigours of the law.
Speaking at the climax of the International Firefighters Day at the Ghana National Fire Service headquarters in Accra, the CFO revealed that the celebration is not just to honour the fallen heroes but also a time to think about how to better support the living.
The International Firefighters’ Day, under the theme, Appreciating Our Heroes, Say No to Assault on Firefighters and Fire Truck Vandalism, is targeted at addressing the subculture that is being developed by unscrupulous individuals in the country.
CFO, Daniella Mawusi, also admonished that, through the Minister of Interior, the service has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Youth Employment Agency to train 5000 young people to provide support services to the Ghana National Fire Service.
On his part, the Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the service and announced the commissioning of 15 pickups and five motorbikes for operational efficiency.
The event saw the laying of coins or badges in remembrance of the fallen firemen in their line of duty.
