Vice-President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is rallying the nation in the wake of a tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight officials, including two Cabinet Ministers.
The victims are:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
- Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong
- Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang chaired a high-level security meeting at the Presidency with Cabinet members and Armed Forces commanders, as government prepared to formally confirm the deaths.
Following the public announcement by the Chief of Staff, the Vice-President led a delegation to the home of the late Dr. Murtala Muhammed, who was also the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.
She was accompanied by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, and Deputy Lands Minister Yusif Sulemana.
The delegation also visited the family of Alhaji Lemuna, Deputy Acting National Security Advisor, who was among the victims.
Earlier Thursday, the Vice-President joined President John Dramani Mahama to lay wreaths in honour of the fallen.
The crash occurred Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District, Ashanti Region, killing both senior government officials and military personnel.
President Mahama has declared three days of national mourning from Thursday, August 7, suspended all official engagements for the week, and ordered flags to fly at half-mast nationwide.
