WHO donates vaccines to Ghana to combat m-pox outbreak

The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated a consignment of vaccines and essential relief items to the Ministry of Health to support Ghana’s response to the recent outbreak of M-pox.

The donation comes amid rising concerns over a resurgence of the virus in parts of the country, prompting urgent calls for coordinated public health action.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, WHO Regional Director for Africa, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed Janabi, emphasized the critical nature of the intervention and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to assisting Ghana in its containment efforts.

Receiving the items on behalf of the government, Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, expressed profound gratitude to the WHO for its swift response and continued support in safeguarding public health.

The Ministry has announced that immediate distribution of the vaccines will begin in the affected regions. It also plans to intensify public education and awareness campaigns to help curb the spread of the disease.
