Wontumi TV has issued an unreserved apology to President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the general public over remarks made by one of its presenters alleging that the President was involved in the recent military helicopter crash.
In a statement, management said the comments, made by presenter Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare on August 9, 2025, were “inappropriate, unfounded, and contrary” to the station’s values of professionalism and accuracy.
The station stressed that the remarks did not reflect its views, policies, or editorial position and were made without evidence.
Wontumi TV said disciplinary action will be taken against the presenter and that it has reinforced editorial guidelines to ensure all on-air personalities speak only from verified facts.
The station expressed regret for the distress and reputational harm caused to the President, the NDC, and affected families, and extended condolences to the victims’ relatives. It also called for unity and sensitivity in discussing matters of national grief.
