In a candid assessment of the state of sports in Ghana, former Sports Minister and MP for Odododiodio constituency, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has identified conflict of interest as a major obstacle hindering progress in the industry.
Speaking with passion and conviction on X Sports show on TV XYZ, Monday 8th July 2024, Hon. Vanderpuye shared his thoughts on the need for stakeholders to prioritize the interests of sports development over personal interests, citing the example of Kwesi Appiah’s dual role as Sudan’s head coach and GFA Exco member.
He stated that Sudan’s head coach and GFA Exco member, Kwesi Appiah, should’ve resigned as an Exco member immediately after he was appointed as the Sudanese national team coach.
Hon. Nii Lantey has promised to sit with stakeholders in football and other sporting disciplines to curb the spirit of conflict of interest when they come back to power.
Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has cautioned the ministry of youth and sports for the maltreatment of the amputee team before and after they won the AAFCON in Egypt this year.
Stating, the same treatment wouldn’t have been given to the Black Stars if they won a trophy.
