Former Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has asserted that former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Party (NDC) have a superior record that would enable them to effectively reset the economy.
Ghana is at a critical juncture as it prepares for its next election cycle, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) vying for control. Both parties have left lasting impacts on Ghana’s political, social, and economic landscapes, each with their successes and failures.
The NPP and NDC have been debating which party has a better track record, with the NPP highlighting its economic growth and infrastructure development, while the NDC emphasizes its social interventions and poverty reduction initiatives.
In an interview on Ultimate FM with Julius Ceasar, Dr. Duffuor expressed that the NDC government led by Former President Mahama, possesses the expertise and skills necessary to revitalize Ghana’s economy, which has been severely impacted by the NPP government.
He further stated that according to statistics NDC government has outperformed the NPP government in terms of economic growth and inflation rate, among other key economic indicators.
“Bawumia was a young man under me as a governor. President Mahama was the vice president when I was the finance minister. One has become president, and the other one has not become president. I am saying that the one who became president has a superior economic record, haven’t I told you that?
So what else do you want me to say? That’s why we are resetting. A superior economic record has been destroyed by the MPP. So there’s a need to reset,” the former minister noted.
He continued: “I will give you all the figures. From economic growth to inflation, we (NDC government) have performed better. We understand the issues better. And one of my principles has been to think through the economy carefully and think through how we can improve upon the economy. How do we do this to save society? I have a think tank, we have been doing this for years. So the NDC has the experience and skills to turn the economy around, and it’s been done before. So the records are there.”
