The Asogli State has congratulated the President-Elect, John Dramani Mahama, following his resounding victory in the just ended Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 16, 2014, the traditional leadership of the Asogli State praised the overwhelming confidence Ghanaians have placed in his leadership and vision for the nation.
“The margin of your victory is a testament to the confidence and trust Ghanaians have placed in your leadership and your vision for our beloved nation.
“Your Excellency, the hope of an entire nation now rests on your shoulders,” it noted.
The Asogli State further emphasised that the electorate had displayed a strong rejection of dishonesty, lawlessness, corruption, and economic mismanagement.
“The people of Ghana have spoken resoundingly against dishonesty, lawlessness, injustice, divisiveness, arrogance, corruption, economic mismanagement, joblessness, and the destruction of our lands and rivers.
“They have entrusted you with the mandate to lead a united Ghana toward prosperity,” it added.
The traditional leadership urged the president-elect to uphold inclusivity, equity, and justice in his governance.
“We believe you will be a leader of all our citizens, regardless of political, ethnic, or regional affiliations, and that your policies, conduct, and decisions will be guided by the principles of inclusivity, equity, and justice,” it added.
However, it also reminded the incoming government of the need to hold individuals accountable, stating, “Being a leader of all, however, does not preclude holding people accountable, nor does it exclude the recovery of stolen state assets and funds.”
It urged the president-elect to ensure that the lessons from the elections, especially the electorate’s demand for better governance, transparency, and accountability, shape the government’s agenda.
“We hope that the lessons from these elections, along with Ghanaians’ quest for better governance, transparency, and accountability, will shape the agenda of your government,” it noted.
The Asogli State expressed hope regarding Mahama’s commitment to addressing the country’s key challenges, including equitable economic growth, job creation, and infrastructure development.
“We are pleased with Your Excellency’s intention to prioritize the pressing desires of our people—equitable economic growth, stability, job creation, and infrastructure development.
“By pursuing these desires with diligence and integrity, you will strengthen the bonds of trust between the government and citizens,” it explained.
The Asogli State pledged its full support and partnership for initiatives that promote peace and development.
“As you prepare to assume your new responsibilities, we pledge our support and partnership in all initiatives that promote peace and development and bring renewed hope to all Ghanaians.
“We wish you success as you steer the affairs of Ghana forward. May your tenure be marked by wisdom, humility, honesty, and the courage to make bold decisions that will leave a lasting legacy for our nation,” it noted.
