NAGRAT rejects appointment of GES deputy director-general

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has opposed the appointment of Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, former Vice-Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University, as Deputy Director-General for Management Services at the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to NAGRAT, while Professor Dzisi has strong academic credentials, she lacks the necessary background and experience within the GES to hold the position.

Speaking to Citi News, NAGRAT’s National President, Angel Carbonu, called on the government to reverse the appointment, emphasizing that the role should be occupied by a professional within the service.

“The previous officeholder was a professional teacher who rose through the ranks to become a regional director before assuming the role of Director of Management Services. The Ghana Education Service is not an extension of a political office.

“It is a professional institution within the Public Services, and we will not accept the appointment of someone who is not a practitioner within the service.

“We demand that the government withdraw this appointment immediately. While Professor Dzisi is a highly qualified academic, her expertise is better suited for universities or technical institutions—not the Ghana Education Service.”

NAGRAT insists that leadership roles in GES should be filled by individuals with direct experience in the service to ensure effective management and continuity.
