My Nigerian Accent and Style Are Intentional Because I Do Afrobeats” – Olivetheboy

Fast-rising Ghanaian musician Olivetheboy has revealed that his Nigerian style and accent are very intentional, as he identifies as an Afrobeats artist.

Speaking on XZONE with Afia Owusu, the Asylum hitmaker explained that since Nigerians are the true originators of Afrobeats, it’s only natural for him to sound like them when performing in the genre.

He further emphasized that it’s time Nigerians receive full credit for pioneering Afrobeats, even though elements of highlife were infused into the sound.

“It was natural before, but now it’s very intentional. What makes it intentional for me now is that the sound is established. If you want to do real Afrobeats, you will sound like Afrobeats. You can’t tell me that Afrobeats is Tanzanian,” he said.

“Nigerians made it, and it’s about time people accept that. No matter what you do, they made it. Maybe they infused the highlife genre into Afrobeats, but now it’s Afrobeats,” he added.
