Ghana Gas board pledges to fast-track delayed Atuabo projects

The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has reaffirmed its commitment to expediting delayed projects at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, a critical facility in Ghana’s energy infrastructure.

This pledge follows recent operational challenges and maintenance activities that have impacted gas supply and power generation.

In September 2024, the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant experienced a technical issue that led to intermittent power supply.

The disruption was caused by a plant equipment trip affecting gas flow rates. Ghana Gas engineers promptly addressed the issue, restoring operations to approximately 45% of normal flow.

Efforts were underway to stabilize the plant and resume full operations.

Prior to the technical challenges, Ghana Gas initiated a 17-day routine maintenance shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant starting August 1, 2024.

The maintenance aimed to ensure safety, enhance efficiency, and safeguard the national asset. The company reported significant progress, with 60% of the maintenance work completed ahead of schedule.

The maintenance activities were expected to conclude before the scheduled date of August 17, 2024.

In response to the delays and challenges, Ghana Gas has vowed to take swift action to address the issues affecting the Atuabo projects.

The company emphasized its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.

Regular maintenance and prompt resolution of technical issues are part of Ghana Gas’s strategy to ensure the reliability of the gas processing plant.

The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant plays a vital role in Ghana’s energy sector, supplying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to parts of the Western and Central regions and contributing to power generation.

Ensuring the plant’s optimal performance is crucial for meeting the country’s energy demands and supporting economic growth.

Ghana Gas’s proactive measures to address delays and technical challenges at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant demonstrate the company’s commitment to sustaining energy supply and enhancing infrastructure reliability.
