No extensions after June 21 deadline: GoldBod warns unlicensed traders

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a final warning to all individuals and entities involved in gold trading: the deadline to obtain a valid GoldBod license is June 21, 2025.

After this date, any person or business operating without a GoldBod-issued license will face immediate prosecution under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140) .

This announcement follows a previous extension from the original May 21 deadline, granted in response to stakeholder petitions.

However, GoldBod has emphasized that no further extensions will be granted. Licenses previously issued by the now-defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will become invalid after the June 21 cutoff.

GoldBod’s CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, has urged all stakeholders to comply with the new licensing regime, stating that the government’s policy on gold trading compliance will be enforced without compromise.

He emphasized that any individual or entity becoming an obstacle will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of Ghana.

The Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers has expressed its readiness to cooperate fully with GoldBod, urging its members to meet the registration deadline.

Chief Executive Kwaku Amoah highlighted the importance of compliance and called on all members to register on or before June 21, 2025.

As part of the new regulatory framework, GoldBod has also announced that, effective May 22, 2025, only the Board, as a corporate entity, is authorized to export gold produced by the small-scale mining sector.

The export function of all gold trading licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources ceased to be valid from that date.

Individuals and companies interested in continuing to trade or deal in gold are encouraged to apply for a GoldBod license through the official website: www.goldbod.gov.gh.

While the application process remains open beyond the June 21 deadline, unlicensed trading will not be tolerated, and violators will be subject to prosecution.

These measures are part of GoldBod’s commitment to enhancing transparency, accountability, and national benefit in Ghana’s gold industry, aligning with the broader vision of President John Dramani Mahama to optimize returns from the country’s mineral wealth for sustainable national development.
