Works and housing minister briefs parliament on gov’t response to galamsey water pollution

The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has briefed Parliament on a series of measures his ministry is implementing to address critical challenges, particularly along the coastal areas of the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking on the floor of the House, the Minister outlined a range of reforms and policy initiatives aimed at improving water supply, sanitation, and housing infrastructure nationwide.

He stated that government is putting in place robust systems to expand access to clean water, upgrade sanitation facilities, and promote sustainable housing solutions for all Ghanaians.

In addition, the Minister highlighted the government’s intensified efforts to combat the destructive effects of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, on the country’s water bodies, especially in high-risk regions.

“These environmental damages pose a serious threat to our water resources,” he noted, “and we are coordinating closely with other agencies to ensure a comprehensive and lasting response.”

The Minister’s address was supported by visual evidence, including field updates from affected communities such as Chorkor and other galamsey-prone zones.
