helicopter crash: acting president Opoku-Agyemang leads delegation to families of deceased

Acting President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, led a high-level government delegation to visit the families of the eight individuals who lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash.

The visit was to offer condolences, emotional support, and to check on the welfare of the bereaved families following the burial of the victims.

The delegation included Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Chief of Staff at the Vice President’s Office Alex Segbefia, senior government officials, and staffers such as Kofi Okyere Darko and Rex Omar of the Black Star Experience.

Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey and Deputy National Communications Officer Godwin Ako Gunn, also joined the visit.

The team called on the families of the late Samuel Sarpong, former NADMO Deputy Director-General Samuel Aboagye, former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Minuru Lumuna, former Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and former Environment Minister Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Shamima Muslim said the visit was at the instruction of President John Dramani Mahama, who is currently out of the country.

“The President wanted us to reach out personally to each family, especially the spouses and children,” she said, adding that companies and individuals have already begun donating to the Child Support Fund set up for the bereaved children.

She reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the families during this difficult period.
