Sky train case: court adjourns $2m trial against Ameyaw-Akumfi, Asamoah to October

The vacation High Court in Accra has adjourned to October 13, 2025 the trial of former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Board Chairman, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, and former CEO, Solomon Asamoah, accused of misappropriating $2 million in the failed Sky Train project.

Both men, facing six charges including willfully causing financial loss to the state, have pleaded not guilty.

The case has been described as a litmus test for accountability in Ghana’s abandoned state-backed projects.

Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, presiding virtually, announced the adjournment on Thursday, August 28.

While Mr. Asamoah joined the session online, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was absent. Prosecutors from the Attorney General’s office are expected to call eight witnesses when hearings resume in the new legal year.

The Sky Train, once touted as a flagship urban transport solution for Accra, collapsed after feasibility and funding setbacks, leaving critics to question how millions of dollars were committed with no results.

Observers say the October session will reveal whether the high-profile case finally gathers momentum or slips into further delays, as the accused maintain their innocence.
