President John Dramani Mahama has formally submitted the investigative report on violence recorded during the 2020 and 2024 elections to the Attorney-General for review and action.
The President said government is committed to fully implementing the report’s recommendations, including the prosecution of perpetrators and compensation for victims and their families.
“Last week, I received the investigative report on the two incidents. It details and catalogues everyone who was affected by the violence and the circumstances that led to it.
We have handed it over to the Attorney-General, who will review it and, where necessary, hold people culpable and bring them to book,” he stated.
President Mahama made the announcement when executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), led by President Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.
He disclosed that the compensation packages would cover families of the deceased, injured victims, and even journalists who suffered attacks while performing their duties.
“What is the adequate compensation that we can give to people like that? The Attorney-General will advise,” the President added.
