Police administration investigates interception of suspected indian hemp at Asesewa

The Ghana Police Service is investigating a case involving a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23, which was intercepted on the Sekesua road carrying 36 bags of substances suspected to be narcotics.

Preliminary investigations indicate that onTuesday, 30 September 2025, officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, Koforidua, arrested the driver of the truck on suspicion of transporting narcotics.

A search revealed that the vehicle, which was partially filled with sawdust, also contained 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics.

After the vehicle and its contents were conveyed to the Sekesua Police Station, the driver and his mate managed to escape, abandoning the truck.

Efforts have since been intensified to re-arrest the suspects.

The impounded truck, together with the 36 sacks of suspected narcotics, remains in the custody of the Eastern Regional Command.

The Police therefore urge the public to disregard false media reports claiming that the sacks have turned into sawdust.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has commenced investigations into the case, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
