From the heart of Dodowa, government leaders under President John Dramani Mahama’s vision have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening partnerships with traditional authorities and youth groups to accelerate infrastructure, job creation, and local enterprise growth.
The 2025 Dodowa Ngmayem Festival Grand Durbar unfolded in a magnificent display of culture, unity, and gratitude as the people of Dodowa, under the leadership of Nene Oklekmeku Atropa II, Dodowa Tadonya Matse, welcomed dignitaries, traditional rulers, and government officials to celebrate this year’s theme, “Environmental Protection, Unity, and Respect for Tradition.”
Though unable to attend in person, President Mahama sent warm greetings to the chiefs and people of Dodowa, urging them to “celebrate the moment” and remain steadfast in preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage.
His message, delivered on his behalf by Hon. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, reflected humility and deep appreciation for the community’s enduring support over the years.
“President Mahama would have loved to be here, but due to circumstances beyond his control, he couldn’t make it,” Mr. Debrah conveyed.
“He extends his heartfelt condolences to Nene Agyeman and his family on the loss of his dear wife. May her soul rest in perfect peace.”
The message drew emotional applause as it acknowledged both the community’s grief and its resilience in unity.
In his address, Nene Oklekmeku Atropa II expressed deep gratitude to President Mahama for launching the Big Push Policy Initiative in Dodowa, a programme that continues to inspire infrastructure expansion and youth empowerment across the region.
“When someone does something for you, you must show appreciation,” Nene said, commending President Mahama’s foresight in initiating transformative projects in the Shai-Osudoku District.
“We are proud that this vision began here, and we continue to benefit from its impact.”
The chief’s statement symbolized the community’s recognition of leadership that listens, invests, and builds values at the heart of the Ngmayem Festival.
Representing the President, Hon. Julius Debrah, former Minister of Local Government, reassured the gathering of government’s continued commitment to the people of Dodowa and Ghana at large.
“Next year when we come, we shall be accountable to you for the things you have asked and the promises we have made,” he emphasized.
“We shall not slumber on our pledges; your trust will not be taken for granted.” He added.
His words echoed the festival’s theme of unity and responsibility, drawing warm applause from the crowd.
In a compelling address, Hon. Linda O. Awuni Ocloo, Greater Accra Regional Minister and MP for Shai-Osudoku, highlighted the critical role of women and small businesses in driving local economic growth.
She pledged to collaborate with the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) led by one of Ghana’s dynamic female executives to empower women traders and artisans within the district.
“On my return, I will hold discussions with the leadership of the GEA to identify ways to enhance the businesses and livelihoods of our sisters, mothers, and market women,” she assured.
Her remarks reflected a renewed government focus on inclusive economic empowerment, a message that resonated deeply with the festival’s communal spirit.
The Grand Durbar grounds of Presby Basic B, Dodowa, came alive with the sounds of traditional drums, chants, and vibrant kente displays.
The event brought together political, traditional, and community leaders, a vivid reflection of Ghana’s enduring unity and respect for cultural heritage.
As the sun set over Dodowa, the prevailing message was one of renewal that the people’s voice will continue to guide leadership, and leadership, in turn, will remain accountable to the people.
