A newly inaugurated social group, the Tongu Union, comprising indigenes from North, South, and Central Tongu in the Volta Region, has donated GH₵10,000 to the Abeka Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) School to support the improvement of its educational infrastructure.
The donation, led by Angel Lydia Nutekor, popularly known as Double Double, forms part of the Union’s broader commitment to community development and educational advancement.
Speaking after the presentation, Ms. Nutekor said the gesture was inspired by the persistent infrastructural challenges faced by the school and called on government and stakeholders to intervene.
“Our visit revealed that the school has suffered years of infrastructural neglect. We are appealing to the government and the Minister of Education to come to their aid, especially as the school is yet to benefit from the School Feeding Programme,” she stated.
The Headmaster of Abeka E.P. School, Presbytery Francis Berchie, expressed profound gratitude to the Tongu Union, describing the donation as timely and inspiring.
“It’s amazing to see people coming together to support education. The first floor of our classroom block is still under construction, and we rely on small contributions. We hope the government and other well-wishers will come to our aid,” he said.
Mr. Berchie commended the Union for its community spirit and encouraged other groups and individuals to emulate its example in promoting education.
