The Government of Ghana has signed a bilateral debt agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany, marking the sixth such pact under the country’s ongoing debt-restructuring programme.
Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson signed the agreement on behalf of Accra, while German Ambassador Frederik Landshöft signed for Ghana, Germany.
The agreement is part of Ghana’s broader efforts to restore debt sustainability following the country’s declaration of external payment difficulties.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the bilateral deal is a “critical milestone” for Ghana’s economic recovery, helping to strengthen fiscal stability and reduce debt service burdens.
The agreement follows earlier bilateral debt deals signed with China-Exim Bank, France, Finland, the United Kingdom and Spain, under the umbrella of the G20 Common Framework for Debt Treatment.
German Ambassador Landshöft said that the agreement underscores Germany’s continuing commitment to deepening cooperation with Ghana and supporting its path to growth.
