The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally notified the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K Bagbin, of the appointment of the Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, as the new Majority Leader.
A letter signed by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, on Monday, August 24, 2026, said the appointment followed consultations between the party leadership and the Presidency amd takes immediate effect.
This comes after Speaker Bagbin announced on Monday when Parliament was recalled from recess that the notification from the Presidency to him about Agalga’s nomination was in error.
He said it was the party that has the authority to communicate the change in Majority Leadership to Parliament.
Fifi Kwetey in his letter said Agalga’s appointment was “intended to provide the necessary leadership and coordination for the NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament as it continues to discharge its constitutional and parliamentary responsibilities.”
“The NDC Leadership is confident that, with the cooperation of the Rt. Hon. Speaker and all Members of Parliament, Hon. James Agalga will provide the leadership necessary to advance the work of Parliament in the supreme interest of the Republic,” Mr Kwetey added.
