The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced plans to intensify surveillance and operations at nightclubs, entertainment venues, pubs, and public events across the country throughout the festive season.
In a statement issued by the Commission, NACOC explained that the move forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, trafficking, and the distribution of illicit substances, especially during periods marked by increased social activities and large public gatherings.
According to NACOC, the festive season often comes with heightened risks of drug abuse, which pose threats to public health, safety, and security.
The Commission said it is therefore committed to protecting the public through targeted enforcement and continuous public education.
The operations, which may be carried out in collaboration with other law enforcement and regulatory agencies, will focus on detecting and preventing the sale and use of illicit drugs, ensuring compliance with national narcotics laws, and educating both patrons and operators on the dangers associated with drug abuse.
NACOC has urged owners and managers of entertainment venues, as well as event organisers, to fully cooperate with authorised officers and take proactive steps to ensure their premises remain drug-free.
Members of the public have also been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug use or trafficking.
The Commission has assured the public that all operations will be conducted professionally and with full respect for human rights, while maintaining a firm stance against narcotics-related offences.
NACOC believes that through collective effort and cooperation, a safe, healthy, and enjoyable festive season can be ensured for all.
