GIS Organizes Regional Commanders’ Conference to Improve Command Synergy and Operational Effectiveness.

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has commenced a five day Regional Commanders’ Conference aimed at strengthening collaboration, enhancing operational efficiency, and improving border security and service delivery.

The conference, which is being held at the Ghana Immigration Service Centre of Excellence (GISCE) in South Odorkor, is themed “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth.”

It has brought together Regional and Sector Commanders, senior management of the Service, and key stakeholders to discuss critical issues including leadership, border management, staff welfare, and institutional development.

Welcoming participants, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu, emphasized the need for greater collaboration amid evolving security challenges.

“In today’s dynamic security landscape, no command can operate effectively in isolation. Sustainable growth within the Ghana Immigration Service can only be achieved through strong collaboration, effective communication, mutual support, and a shared sense of purpose among all commands and control structures,” he stated.

Comptroller-General Samuel Amadu noted that strengthening command synergy would lead to improved operational coordination, greater accountability, and more efficient service delivery across the Service.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Mrs. Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, Director of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice, commended Regional and Sector Commanders for their dedication in protecting Ghana’s borders despite increasing security threats.

She particularly praised the officers for their professionalism in combating transnational crimes such as human trafficking, smuggling, and illegal migration, especially along the northern frontiers.

Mrs. Obuobisa also announced several key institutional reforms approved by the Governing Council, including:

  • The establishment of an Agricultural Department
  • The elevation of the Border Management Department into a full Directorate
  • The rollout of a mutual health insurance scheme for officers
  • The creation of a Staff Endowment Fund
  • The adoption of new transfer guidelines

According to her, these reforms are designed to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen staff welfare, and better position the Service to respond to emerging migration and security challenges.

The conference will feature presentations on servant leadership, command and control, strategic management, finance, disciplinary procedures, and 360-degree leadership to further strengthen the operational capacity of commanders nationwide.
