The Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II, has passed away, plunging the kingdom into a period of mourning.
The death of the revered traditional ruler was officially announced on Monday, July 13, by the Head of the Dagbon Kingmakers, Kuga Naa Adam Abdulai II, following the performance of customary rites at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
In accordance with Dagbon tradition, the announcement was preceded by the sounding of the traditional talking drum and the observance of sacred customary rituals, signalling the passing of the Ya-Na to the people of the kingdom.
Ya-Na Abukari II has since been laid to rest in line with Dagbon customs and traditions.
His passing marks a historic and solemn moment for the Dagbon Kingdom, as chiefs, elders, and subjects mourn the loss of their spiritual and traditional leader.
Traditional authorities are expected to announce the next stages of the funeral and succession processes after the completion of the requisite customary rites.
The late Ya-Na Abukari II leaves behind a legacy of leadership and service to the Dagbon Kingdom, one of Ghana’s most influential traditional states.
