Ghanaian Evacuee Dies After Arriving in Accra from South Africa.

A Ghanaian evacuee from South Africa has died shortly after arriving at the Accra International Airport as part of the government’s ongoing repatriation exercise.

The deceased was among 50 Ghanaians who arrived in Accra at about 5:50pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, aboard an Air Tanzania flight from South Africa.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the passenger’s health condition reportedly began to deteriorate about 30 minutes before the aircraft landed in Accra.

A medical emergency team was on standby at the airport to receive and attend to the returnees. However, efforts to save the passenger’s life proved unsuccessful.

The passenger was pronounced dead by doctors at the airport’s Emergency Medical Reception at 6:55pm.

The Ministry said it is currently undertaking the necessary arrangements to formally inform the deceased’s family.

The remains have subsequently been deposited at the Police Hospital for autopsy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it will provide further details following formal engagement with the bereaved family.

The deceased was part of the government’s evacuation exercise to return Ghanaians from South Africa amid concerns over attacks and insecurity affecting some foreign nationals.
