Accra/Moscow – Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for greater international cooperation to address the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel while stressing that sustainable solutions must be led by African countries.
Speaking at a press briefing in Russia following bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, Mr. Ablakwa welcomed Russia’s cooperation and support for Ghana’s efforts to counter violent extremism in the region.
He emphasised that African nations must take the lead in confronting the growing security threat, noting that international partners, including Russia, can play a supportive role by providing the necessary resources and assistance to strengthen Africa’s own initiatives against terrorism and violent extremism.
The Minister highlighted the expanding activities of militant groups across the Sahel in recent years and urged the international community to deepen collaboration in tackling the crisis.
The discussions form part of ongoing diplomatic engagements aimed at reinforcing partnerships on regional security and stability.
