Government to announce major national housing project in 2027 budget

President John Dramani Mahama has hinted that government will announce a flagship national housing programme to beginning 2027.

He said the announcement will be made by the Finance Minister in the 2027 budget statement and economic policy statement to be presented to parliament. 

President Mahama who inspected progress of work at the Saglemi housing project on Thursday, August 20, 2026 indicated that Saglemi will not be the last housing project of his administration.

“Government is preparing a major national housing programme that will be announced by the Finance Minister in the next budget” President Mahama said.

President Mahama said government has already begun a rollout of the district housing scheme with a seed money of GH¢500.

“Already, the Ministry responsible for Housing is working on the District Housing Scheme, for which GH¢500 million has been allocated in this year’s budget” he indicated. Adding that “construction of district housing projects will begin this year in selected districts, marking the beginning of a new housing vision that Government intends to roll out over the next four years’’.

Meanwhile LMI Holdings, the private developer of the Saglemi housing project has assured that the One Thousand five Hundred (1,500) housing units will be available for sale to the general public by close of year 2027 with initial Seven Hundred being ready by March next year. Chief Executive Officer, Kojo Adu-hene assured of equipping the facility to ensure value for money.

These assurance President Mahama says will be beneficial to the general masses of the people.

“We trust your commitment, and we expect that when we return next March, you will have fulfilled the promise you have made to the people of Ghana” he intimated.
