President John Mahama says the ongoing developments at the Accra International Airport will help decrease congestion, improve traffic circulation and make movement around the facility more convenient for passengers.
He made the remarks on Thursday August 27, 2026, when he cut the sod for the Multi-Tiered, Multi-Purpose Car Park and Airport Hotels Complex at the Accra International Airport.
The project will include two hotels, a pedestrian connector linking the complex to the terminal, and more than 2,000 parking bays. It will also feature a shopping mall with a food court, retail and office spaces, as well as a sky lounge and sky observatory for aircraft viewing.
President Mahama commended the Minister of Transport and other stakeholders involved in the project, noting that the government had not provided direct funding for the projects.
“The Government of Ghana has not given any of the two institutions one single cedi for these projects. I wish to commend the Minister of Transport and all those associated with this project. This is what we want to see. Develop our country but don’t go to Ato Forson and ask for money,” he said.
As construction begins, President Mahama urged the contractor and consultants to prioritise quality, value for money and timely completion. He called for strict adherence to project specifications, rigorous cost controls and continuous supervision to ensure the project stays on schedule.
President Mahama also urged the project managers to identify and address any challenges that could affect the project’s schedule or quality. He further directed that the public be kept informed about major project milestones and any temporary changes to traffic arrangements around the airport.
“Airport users should be given clear advance notice of diversions and other construction-related disruptions. Good communication will help maintain confidence and minimise inconvenience to our passengers,” he added.
