Authorities must Protect Women and Children-Betty Krosby Mensah demand

Aspiring National Women’s Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Mrs. Seyram Betty Krosby Mensah, has called for the protection of women and children, noting that these two groups are particularly vulnerable in society.

Hon. Mrs. Seyram Betty Krosby Mensah expressed solidarity with fashion and movie icon Nana Akua Addo and her children following distress reports and images involving the family. She called for their protection and for their emotional well-being to be prioritised.

In a statement, Mrs. Krosby Mensah said she was deeply saddened by the developments, stressing that every woman and child deserves to live in safety, dignity, and freedom from fear.

“As a woman, a mother, and someone who strongly believes in the dignity, safety and protection of women and children, I am deeply saddened by what has emerged,” she stated.

She assured Nana Akua Addo of her support and expressed hope that she and her children would find the strength, comfort, protection, and assistance needed to navigate this difficult period. Mrs. Krosby Mensah emphasised that no woman should be forced to live in fear, particularly in a place she should be able to call home.

She called on the relevant institutions to ensure that the allegations surrounding the incident are thoroughly investigated and that the law is applied fairly, without fear or favour. The statement highlighted Ghana’s Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732), which provides a legal framework for addressing domestic violence and protecting victims. Mrs. Krosby Mensah urged the appropriate authorities to uphold the law and ensure that justice takes its course, emphasising the need for accountability and effective protection for those affected by domestic violence.

She also commended the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection for reaching out to the family, noting that beyond the ongoing investigations, the safety, emotional well-being, and dignity of Nana Akua Addo and her children must remain a priority.

Encouragement to Nana Akua Addo

Mrs. Krosby Mensah further encouraged Nana Akua Addo not to allow the difficult situation to overshadow the positive impact she has made on others. She said women in Ghana recognise her contributions and encouraged her to remain strong as she works towards moving forward with dignity. According to her, Nana Akua Addo deserves compassion, support, and the opportunity to overcome the current difficulties without losing sight of her worth and contributions to society.

Message to Women Experiencing Abuse

Extending her message beyond the immediate situation, Mrs. Krosby Mensah appealed to women silently enduring abuse to recognise the importance of their lives, dignity, and personal safety. She stressed that every woman deserves to be heard, protected, and supported, urging institutions responsible for safeguarding victims to ensure that no cry for help goes unanswered. She maintained that the existence of laws against domestic violence must translate into meaningful protection for victims and effective responses from the relevant authorities.

Mrs. Krosby Mensah concluded by offering prayers for Nana Akua Addo and her family, asking God to grant them strength, peace, protection, and healing during this challenging period. Her statement adds to calls for greater attention to domestic violence, the protection of women and children, and the need for institutions to respond effectively to allegations of abuse.
