Solomon Owusu, a senior campaign team member of the political group, Movement for Change, has debunked reports that the party’s ‘victory walk led by Alan Kyerematen in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, was not patronised.
He said the group was overwhlemed by the outpoor love for Mr kyerematen and the Movement by thousands of residents over the weekend, stressing that the success of the campaign was not in doubt.
Mr Owusu who was part of the organisers of the victory walk explained that some members of the campaign team of the governing NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, had to rush to sponsor news reports seeking to water down the impact of the campaign activities of Alan in the region which is described as the stronghold of the NPP.
Speaking on Accra FM’s Citizen Show, Owusu who defected from the NPP with Alan, a former Minister of Trade and Industry, stated that the victory walk was successful and had sent shock waves to the camp of the governing party led by Vice President Bawumia.
“The reports are from tabloids the NPP control. Those online portals are not serious because the people of Ashanti Region showed Alan Kyerematen so much love suh that the NPP leadership in the region had to run from one radio station to the other, trying to divert attention from our activities,” he said.
“The NPP have clearly seen that lan is a force to reckon with in the Ashanti Region. Alan knows the Ashanti Region more than anyone in the NPP. They are losing in the region but want to sponsor fake news to massage some people’s ego.”
He said the aftermath of the walk where the youth pledged massive support for Alan Kyerematen has freightened Dr Bawumia and his team which is clear about their impendinding defeat in the region.
“The walk drew thousands of supporters and floating voters across the Ashanti region and the NPP know they have lost the battle already. Bawumia has to push his wife Samira to start a tour in the region to counter ours but the people have already made up their minds.”
“If you want someone to counter Alan, an astute politician who knows what he is doing, you’ll realise tasking Samira to counter him is a big joke. who is Samira to counter alan?” he quizzed.
Ahead of the election, Owusu cautioned that members of the Movement for Change will intensify its vigilance on election day, alleging that although the NPP has planned to rig the polls, they will crash their agenda.
“We will police the polls very wel because some of us will be agents on election day and we will ensure the NPP does not orchestrate anything silly,” he said while downplaying the strength od the NPP in the Ashanti Region.
“Bawumia can’t sleep because we have taken over their stronghold and the people are calling for change,” he added.
Meanwhile, the independent presidential Candidate and leader for Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has called on the people of Ghana to join him in his quest to break the duopoly of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the country’s politics.
He has been touring some parts of the country and promising a transformation of the country’s trade, agric and economy, adding that his Great Transformation Plan (GTP) is the best thing to happen to Ghana.
Otumfuo’s Support
Earlier this month, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, hailed the vision of Alan Kyerematen, which has been documented and named the Great Transformation Plan (GTP).
The King of Asanteman said the comprehensive GTP is a visionary development blueprint capable of steering Ghana onto the path of sustainable economic growth and prosperity.
Asantehene made the remarks on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, when Alan Kyerematen, accompanied by his running mate, Kwame Owusu Danso and some of the leaders of the Alliance, visited the Overlord of Asante at the Manhyia Palace.
In his brief address to the politicians, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged the presidential candidate to ensure that Ghanaians understand the depth and impact of the GTP, as it holds the solutions to the country’s most pressing problems.
The king’s words were a reflection of the growing sentiment among Ghanaians in various sectors who believe that Mr Kyerematen’s GTP is the right plan to transform the nation’s fortunes.
The Asantehene’s endorsement of the GTP is not an isolated voice. Many prominent figures from Ghana’s private sector, academia, business community, and civil society organizations have also heaped praise on the plan.
The visit was part of a larger Caravan Campaign Tour in the Ashanti Region ahead of the 7th December General Election.
