Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called on Ghanaians and foreign diplomats to rally behind President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of transforming the economy through exports, stressing that the country cannot thrive on import dependence.
Speaking at the 4th Made-in-Ghana Bazaar, Mr. Debrah urged ambassadors and high commissioners to actively promote Ghanaian products abroad, even if it means championing just one item such as chocolate, kente, or traditional stools.
“Even if it’s only one product, like Ghanaian chocolate, and you make it your duty to ensure someone gets to know about it and imports it, you’re going to be a very successful envoy for your country,” he said.
The Chief of Staff recounted how a visiting American praised the cultural and economic value of Ghana’s woven cloth, noting that such compelling stories could be harnessed to boost exports.
He also challenged the Ministries of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, and Foreign Affairs to deepen collaboration and lead a nationwide campaign to encourage citizens to patronize locally made products.
“This situation where almost everything we use, we have to import, it’s not going to take us anywhere,” he cautioned.
Mr. Debrah concluded by urging all Ghanaians to back the President’s economic “reset” agenda, emphasizing that this generation must be remembered for bold initiatives that reposition the country.
“If we don’t do it, nobody will do it for us,” he stressed.
