Ga North MCE prioritizes sanitation, warns against unsafe structures near bridges

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga North, Akwetey Agbo, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving sanitation across the municipality while cautioning residents and business owners against putting up unsafe structures near bridges and waterways.

In an interview with the media in Accra, Mr. Agbo expressed gratitude to the people of Ga North, President John Dramani Mahama, and the Greater Accra Regional Minister for their continued support, stressing that sanitation remains his top priority.

“One of the key challenges in this municipality is sanitation. We have begun community engagements to encourage everyone to keep their surroundings clean. My team and I have already desilted major gutters in Ofankor, Safowaa Memorial, Afieman, and other areas to prevent flooding,” he said.

Mr. Agbo disclosed that task forces have been deployed to ensure businesses manage their waste properly, citing cleanup exercises carried out at the Ofankor Barrier underpass and surrounding gutters.

On unauthorized structures, the MCE revealed that the Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO and the sanitation unit, has served notices to individuals who placed containers close to bridges.

He stressed that such activities pose flood risks and endanger lives.

“Very soon, we will remove all those containers. This is not about destroying livelihoods but about protecting lives and property. Anyone who wants to put up a container or temporary structure must seek the Assembly’s approval,” he cautioned.

He called on residents to support the Assembly’s efforts, emphasizing that sanitation and disaster prevention require collective responsibility.
