GFA introduces GH¢1,500 minimum salary for premier league players

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has set a new minimum monthly net salary of GH¢1,500 for players in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), in what it calls a landmark step to raise standards in the domestic game.

The policy, agreed upon by the GFA, football clubs, and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), also comes with a standardised player contract for all professional footballers.

Players in the Division One League and the Women’s Premier League will also benefit, with a guaranteed minimum of GH¢700 net monthly.

The new salary structure takes effect in the next registration window for fresh contracts, while players currently under contract will receive the new rates at the start of the 2026/2027 league season.

GFA President Kurt Okraku hailed the development as a major boost for Ghanaian footballers.

“This reflects our firm commitment to protecting the welfare of our footballers and ensuring they are rewarded fairly for their talent and hard work,” he said.

The Association believes the move will not only improve player welfare but also strengthen retention and enhance the competitiveness of local leagues.
