GRNMA apologises to health minister Akandoh over derogatory remarks

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has apologised to Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh after its General Secretary, Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, made offensive remarks about him during an interview on Asempa FM.

In a statement signed by spokesperson Tony Goodman, the Association admitted the comments were inappropriate and confirmed that its leadership had met with the Minister to offer a formal apology.

The delegation included past and present leaders Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, Dr. Krobea Asante, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and Dr. Tenkorang-Twum himself.

Mr. Akandoh accepted the apology and urged the Association to prioritise constructive dialogue with government.

He reiterated his commitment to closer collaboration with healthcare professionals to strengthen service delivery nationwide.

Highlighting progress under the current administration, the Minister cited the recruitment of 13,500 nurses, establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund, retooling of health facilities, and clearance of arrears on nursing training allowances and NHIS claims.

He further assured that government would fully implement the collective bargaining agreement to improve conditions of service for nurses as part of efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
