The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has successfully repossessed more than 16 acres of prime airport land from the McDan Group of Companies, following a decisive ruling by the Accra High Court on May 6, 2025.
The reclaimed parcels, measuring approximately 10.63 and 5.66 acres, are situated near Kotoka International Airport (KIA), adjacent to and opposite Action Chapel International.
These lands had been occupied since 2012 by McDan Shipping Company and Airport Logistics Limited, both subsidiaries of the McDan Group.
In February 2025, GACL initiated legal proceedings against the two entities, citing longstanding breaches of land lease agreements and outstanding ground rents totaling $26,296.
The company also sought a perpetual injunction to prevent any future interference by the McDan companies.
The court granted all reliefs sought by GACL, including full re-entry and possession of the lands, and ordered the defendants to pay GH¢50,000 in legal costs.
This legal victory follows a broader effort by GACL to enforce compliance and protect public assets.
In December 2024, McDan Aviation’s operations at Terminal 1 of KIA were suspended due to debt obligations, which were later settled, but the land dispute remained unresolved until this ruling.
GACL management hailed the court’s decision as a major milestone in its asset recovery efforts.
With the reclaimed lands back under its control, GACL is expected to consider aviation-related projects or strategic partnerships to optimize use of the space and enhance revenue generation.
The McDan Group has filed for a stay of execution pending an appeal.
