Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has hit back at alleged death threats from the National Vice Chairman of the opposition NDC, Chief Sofo Azorka, insisting he will not be intimidated.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, when Afenyo-Markin paid an unannounced visit to the NDC constituency office in Akwatia.
His presence reportedly angered party executives, who described the move as “provocative” and “disrespectful” ahead of the upcoming by-election.
Chief Azorka is said to have reacted furiously, accusing the ruling NPP of using intimidation tactics against NDC supporters.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the confrontation escalated when the NDC Vice Chairman allegedly threatened his life.
“I have heard that the NDC’s Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, said that he wants to ‘kill’ me. We know them, the infamous Azorka Boys; all they know is beating people up and killing others. But I am not a coward,” the Minority Leader declared.
Afenyo-Markin urged his supporters to remain calm and resist fear.
“Nobody should let the words of Azorka put fear into anybody. We do not do politics with fear; it’s all about courage.
Our forebearers spent time in jail all for the sake of politics, so don’t let anybody put fear into you,” he said.
