Mahama assures efficient use of oil revenues for $10bn ‘Big Push’ infrastructure plan

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) of the efficient and transparent use of Ghana’s oil revenues to fund his administration’s ambitious $10 billion “Big Push” infrastructure agenda.

The President gave the assurance during a courtesy call by members of PIAC, led by its Chairman, Mr. Constantine K.M. Kudzedzi.

The Committee visited the Presidency to extend congratulations on President Mahama’s recent election victory and to discuss critical matters regarding the management of petroleum revenues.

Outlining details of the “Big Push” initiative, President Mahama said government plans to invest $2 billion annually over the next five years in large-scale infrastructure projects across the country.

These will include road and bridge construction, education and health facilities, and strategic investments in agriculture.

“Agriculture will receive targeted support under the initiative,” he noted, citing planned irrigation schemes, farmer service centres, and agribusiness development interventions.

The President said the primary sources of funding for the “Big Push” would be petroleum revenues and mineral royalties.

He stressed that robust financial controls would ensure funds are prudently and transparently applied to maximise national impact.

Commending PIAC for its oversight role, President Mahama praised the Committee as a model of accountability and transparency in the use of public resources.

“PIAC continues to serve as an important institution in ensuring public confidence in how Ghana’s oil revenues are managed,” the President said. “You are a commendable example for other nations seeking to strengthen oversight and public trust.”

The meeting reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusive development and accountability in the management of the country’s natural resources.
