Mahama honours Buz Stop Boys at national sanitation day relaunch

President John Dramani Mahama has honoured the popular youth volunteer group, Buz Stop Boys, for their commitment to cleaning communities across the country.

Speaking at the re-launch of the National Sanitation Day (NSD) in Madina, Accra, the President presented the group with working tools, including 200 wheelbarrows, 300 shovels, 300 brooms, 300 gloves, 280 standing brushes, 20 short brushes, and 300 plastic buckets to boost their operations.

“I encountered them last year on social media, and they called themselves the Buz Stop Boys. I want to commend them. These are selfless, community-spirited young people who, for years, have used their own resources, energy and strength to volunteer in keeping our cities clean,” President Mahama said.

Group leader Heneba Kwadwo Sarfo thanked the President, describing the support as an encouragement to continue their work.

Meanwhile, government announced that starting October 2025, the first Saturday of every month will be observed as National Sanitation Day, led by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The NSD, first launched in 2014 under Mahama’s administration but abandoned after 2016, has been revived under the Clean Ghana Agenda to restore discipline, improve public health, and instil civic responsibility.
