Mahama launches 24-hr economy policy

President John Dramani Mahama has today, July 2, 2025 launched one of his government ‘s flagship programme –the 24-hour Economy Policy–with calls for the private sector to embrace it.

Speaking at the event, Mr Mahama stressed that the government will take a facilitative rather than dominant role in the rollout of the policy.

He emphasised the private sector will be at the forefront of driving the initiative.

President Mahama also noted that his administration intends to act as an enabler, creating the environment necessary for private enterprise to thrive within the framework of the 24-Hour Plus Programme.

“The private sector will lead the 24-Hour Plus programme. Government will facilitate and not dominate,”  President Mahama stated.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Goosie Tanoh, expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to successfully implement the 24-hour economy initiative.

He stated that the country has what it takes to drive meaningful economic transformation.

“We at the secretariat are confident that we will continue to receive constructive criticism and suggestions for further improvement. Criticism is always welcome,” he stated.

Mr Tanoh described the 24-hour economy as a “living programme,” and explained that it is enriched in science and grounded in firm social democratic principles, but flexible enough to respond tactically to a changing environment.
