President Elect of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has held discussions with Kanyan President, William Ruto to upscale the full benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
John Mahama’s Sunday’s visit to President Ruto also saw the duo hold bilateral talks on the regional integration efforts, continental security amongst other areas of interest to the two nations.
John Mahama who was a former Chair of the African Union (AU) high level Committee on trade has promised Ghana in the next few years ahead will explore the full potentials of the AfCFTA potents for Ghana and the African Sub Region.
“As a former Chair of the AU high-level committee on Trade, I remain committed to expanding trade among our countries under the aegis of the AfCFTA” he said in a post on X.
The President Elect has already decided Ghana’s inability to take full advantage of that AfCFTA at a time the country is only exporting seventy -Seven Products. This he has promised to personally Chair and export accelerated Development Programme to ensure the full potentials of the AfCFTA is realized.
While in Kenya John Mahama also thanked President Ruto for his support over the years and invited him to the #MahamaInauguration on January 7, 2025.
The two leaders have promised to further strengthen the already existing relation between the two countries
“We shall strengthen relations between Kenya and Ghana”.
On his part, President William Ruto indicated that
Kenya will enhance her relations with Ghana to include more sectors in trade and investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, oil and gas.
This he said will broaden opportunities for the people of the two countries and ensure our shared prosperity.
He also thanked John Mahama for declaring his support for Hon Raila Odinga‘s African Union Commission chairperson candidature.
