The Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment today hosted a national stakeholders’ dialogue focused on addressing the growing concern of qualification mismatches in the labour market.
The event, held at the Ministry in Accra, the dialogue brought together representatives from government agencies, educational institutions, private sector employers, and labour unions to assess gaps between academic training and workplace demands.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister of Labour, emphasised the urgency of aligning education and training systems with evolving labour market needs.
“We must ensure that our workforce is equipped not just with degrees, but with the skills and competencies required by employers,” he stated.
The dialogue featured panel discussions on curriculum relevance, youth unemployment, and strategies for upskilling and reskilling.
Stakeholders shared data, best practices, and policy recommendations aimed at bridging the gap between qualifications and job requirements.
The outcomes of the dialogue are expected to inform the development of a national skills framework and future labour market reforms and to bridge the gap of qualification mismatch in the formal and informal sectors.
