President Mahama swears in new military commanders to armed forces council

President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in the newly appointed service commanders of the Ghana Armed Forces as members of the Armed Forces Council.

The ceremony, held earlier today at the Ministry of Defense, came ahead of a scheduled Council meeting to deliberate on key matters, including promotions and ongoing efforts to retool the military.

The newly inducted commanders are:

  • Major General William Agyapong, Chief of Defense Staff
  • Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Army Staff
  • Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, Chief of Naval Staff
  • Air Vice Marshall Eric Agyen-Frempong, Chief of Air Staff

The event drew top-level attendance, including Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Interior Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka, and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Also present were Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama and Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari.

The swearing-in marks a new phase of leadership within the military as Ghana deepens its commitment to national security and defense readiness.
