Prisons service dismisses social media rumours on Agradaa

The Ghana Prisons Service has dismissed as false recent social media reports about the current status of Madam Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, who is serving her sentence at the Nsawam Female Prison.

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 30, 2025, the Service said it had noted “viral misinformation” being circulated by certain social media accounts, including those under the names Mystery Me on Facebook and Team Empress Gifty on TikTok.

It accused the handlers of deliberately spreading falsehoods to gain followers.

“The handler of these accounts is using this fake content as bait to multiply her followers, thereby misleading the public with the caption ‘Breaking news from Nsawam’,” the statement clarified. The public was therefore urged to disregard such claims and treat them as fake.

Signed by Deputy Director of Prisons and Director of Public Affairs, Janet Asabea, the statement reassured the public that the Service remains committed to ensuring the safe custody, reformation, and rehabilitation of all inmates. It stressed that only information issued through official Prisons Service channels should be considered credible.

Madam Patricia Asiedua, alias Agradaa, is currently serving a 15-year sentence with hard labour. While her conviction continues to attract public attention, the Prisons Service cautioned against the spread of misinformation that could undermine public trust in the correctional system.
