The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will later this afternoon launch its national campaign ahead of the December 7, 2024 elections.
Ahead of the event, the Northern Regional capital, Tamale is already choked with thousands of jubilant party supporters, energized by opinion polls that suggest a comfortable lead by their Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
The party colours, white, black, green, and red umbrella-emblazoned party emblem are visibly posted on vehicles, bikes, trees, walls and any available space.
Scores of young men and women are seen on motor bikes, scooters and tricycles, popularly called ‘aboboya’ honking and screeching in jubilation as they anxiously wait to see and welcome Members of Parliament, Parliamentary candidates, , Council of Elders as well as former government appointees and party stalwarts.
Guest houses re fully booked while eateries, and other social venues are cashing in on the unusual volume of patrons.
Themed ‘Change To Reset Ghana”, the campaign launch is scheduled to begin at 12pm at Jubilee Park.
The launch aims at boosting the party’s campaign machinery designed to interface with Ghanaians in person on several policies, particularly focusing on their 24-hour economy policy proposal expected to revamp the economy and create jobs for the youth.
The flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary, are among those expected to address the gathering.
It is expected that the launch will be used to explain the party’s controversial 24-hour economy policy, which has been widely criticized as a rather soft and unappealing policy campaign message and also reenergize the party base for an all out campaign.
Myxyzonline has also learnt some artistes are billed to perform to light up the euphoria.
The launch is basically to call on all party people to the ground, it’s about hard work, vigilance, it’s about making sure that we send the big agenda to Ghanaians to understand our message to vote us into power to reset Ghana,” the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress said in an interview
