UG to build 10,000-bed hostel following Mahama’s Singapore visit

The University of Ghana is set to construct a 10,000-bed student hostel under a new partnership sealed during President John Dramani Mahama’s state visit to Singapore.

The project, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is part of a wider package of agreements aimed at boosting investment in housing, infrastructure, energy, and aviation between Ghana and Singapore.

The key deals include affordable housing projects by Rock Africa, Robin Village Development, GIIF, and Uni Premier, the supply of mass flow meters and tracking systems by Rock Africa and Ascent Solutions, construction of a new oil jetty by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), advanced airport security systems and road and pavement testing collaborations with the Ministry of Roads and Highways and Pan United, and a letter of intent to redevelop a mixed-use project in Accra to international standards.

President Mahama described the partnerships as “more than diplomacy,” stressing their role in driving trade, investment, and long-term cooperation with Singapore.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa added that Ghana will soon open a consulate in Singapore and has invited Singapore to establish a reciprocal mission in Accra.
