The National Concerned Small Scale Miners Association, Ghana (NCSSMAG), has clarified its stance on recent voice notes circulating in the media regarding the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Task Force on small-scale mining.
In a statement issued on August 28, 2025, the Association stressed that it does not support illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and remains committed to lawful practices.
“We have consistently opposed galamsey and will continue to support all lawful measures aimed at eradicating the menace,” the statement read.
The group also reaffirmed its support for the IGP and security agencies, describing their operations as vital to ensuring order, fairness, and sustainability in the mining sector.
At the same time, the Association addressed concerns from licensed small-scale miners affected by recent task force operations.
It encouraged miners with valid concessions whose equipment had been seized to contact the Association’s office with documentation for assistance in retrieving their machinery.
In line with its pledge to responsible mining, NCSSMAG announced plans to establish a Task Force on Environmental Restoration to work with communities in rehabilitating rivers and water bodies damaged by mining.
The statement further commended the work of journalists and environmental advocates, including Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor, for drawing attention to the environmental damage caused by illegal mining.
Signed by NCSSMAG President Michael Kwadwo Peprah, the Association underscored its commitment to protecting the environment, supporting legitimate miners, and working with government institutions to ensure small-scale mining operates strictly within the law.
