“We either reset now or sink further” – Prof Nana Opoku Agyemang tells youth, Ghanaians

The Vice pPesidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has issued a rallying call to Ghanaians especially the youth to take control of their future by voting out the NPP.

“We either reset now or sink further” she cautioned.

Speaking to students of Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College, University teachers and other professional bodies during a tour of the Bono Region, Prof. Opoku Agyemang noted with concern that said that Ghana currently is at a crossroad, and it’s time for all to to join the National crusade to kick out Nana Akufo Addo- Bawumia led government to “reset” the nation.

“We have the option to reset this country,” she said. “This is not a joke or a child’s game. The choice is ours” she said.

She advised the youth to take an active role in shaping Ghana’s future through informed voting and civic responsibility.

“Let us all advise ourselves, especially the young people. If you go this way, it might not end as well as you want it. You want governance that thinks of the people.”

Prof Nana Opoku Agyemang stressed the importance of moving beyond the politics of fear and division, which she says has plagued the country.

“What progress have we made as a people? She asked.

“Why are we so broke? What happened? Sometimes I wonder if we are truly aware of the financial state of this country. Why are our water bodies polluted, and why are portions of our lands getting poisoned? What does this mean for our future?,” she added

The NDC Vice Presidential candidate also clammed Nana Akufo Addo for deliberately denying some sections of Ghanaians their fare of the National cake and development because they voted against the NPP

“Has anyone ever said that because you did not vote for me, your child cannot attend this school? Have we heard that before?” she asked.

She encouraged the students to reflect on the nature of governance that turns its back on certain groups.

“Why do we hear that you didn’t vote for me, so I have taken my eyes off you? Is that what governance should be?” she questioned.

She urged the students to vote for John Mahama and the NDC when they got to the voting booth.

Prof. Opoku Agyemang Challenges NPP to list SHS Blocks Built in 8 Years

-The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress NDC, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has challenged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disclose the number of Senior High School blocks they’ve built since January 2017 when President Akufo Addo assumed office.

Speaking in Nzezera in the Dorma West Constituency of the Bono Region, Prof Nana Opoku-Agyemang who also served as Minister Of Education during the John Mahama administration noted that the NDC’s track record on education infrastructure was transparent.

“We promised 200 senior high school blocks; while we didn’t complete all, our achievements are visible,” she stated.

“The NPP promised to build 350 new senior high schools. We want to know how many they’ve delivered.” she quizzed

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang maintained that the NPP’s performance on education infrastructure remains unclear.

She has therefore urged the people of Dorma West to vote against the NPP government due to its poor performance

The NDC has always insisted the John Mahama-led administration completed 46 E-Block projects, as documented in the Education Ministry’s handing-over note in 2016.

The NDC E-block record is particularly notable given the NPP’s criticism of the Mahama government for allegedly failing to deliver on the 200-school promise.

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress NDC, Prof Jane Naana  Opoku Agyemang has urged students of Goaso Nursing and Midwifery College to vote massively for John Mahama because he has good intentions which will not only guarantee them jobs but create more opportunities for the growth of the health sector.

“NDC cares, Mahama cares, we care.” she emphasized

Prof. Opoku Agyemang listed key infrastructure projects including the establishment of the University of Ghana Medical Centre, the Bank of Ghana Hospital, the expansion and elevation of numerous health facilities and the development of dental health schools.

“We have built regional hospitals that not only cater to the health needs of Ghanaians but also teach medicine, along with establishing district hospitals and healthcare centers throughout the country.”

“We introduced the Onua Dor Vans to bring healthcare closer to communities.”

“These are efforts that we have implemented with limited resources, yet with a clear vision: to create jobs and support professionals in the health sector,” she explained.

Prof. Opoku Agyemang pledged that the next NDC government would prioritize quality primary and specialized healthcare.

She underscored the importance of localized healthcare facilities in health promotion, disease prevention, and mental health awareness.

“Our plan includes focusing on comprehensive healthcare systems that encourage healthy lifestyles among Ghanaians,” she explained.

She also lamented the current state of abandoned health facilities across the nation.

“The NDC intends to return to abandoned projects to complete them and ensure that they serve their intended purpose,” she stated.

She called on the student nurses to consider the records of the previous Mahama administration and NDC’s commitment to the future in healthcare and beyond as they head to the polls.

NDC in court for injunction to halt EC from printing Amenfi Central ballots

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is seeking an injunction to restrain the Electoral Commission (EC) from proceeding with the printing of parliamentary ballot papers and notice of poll for the Amenfi Central constituency.

This was revealed by the Head of Legal Affairs of the party, Edudzi Tamekloe on TV XYZ.

The development comes after the Electoral Commission, in a letter signed by the Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, announced the disqualification of the  NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi Central, Madam Joana Cudjoe.

The letter, dated October 10, 2024, stated that the Commission is bound by the court order, which has neither been stayed nor vacated.

Reacting to the matter, Tamakloe said the party has already filed a writ in an Accra High Court to challenge the decision of the EC to disqualify the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central.

He described the decision of the EC as mischievous, stating that the Commission was a party to an interlocutory injunction against the candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s election in the May 12 primary.

He said the NDC was waiting for the court to hear the injunction case next week so they could proceed with the necessary action.

“We are seeking for injunction so we are urging all party members in the area to remain calm as we deal with the challenges,” Tamekloe stated.

Background

The disqualification of Joana Cudjoe stems from an interlocutory injunction issued by the Sekondi High Court, which prevents the EC from recognizing Cudjoe as the NDC’s candidate for the upcoming December 7 elections.

The court’s injunction is reportedly related to a pending lawsuit concerning Cudjoe’s eligibility, which has not been resolved or lifted, thereby blocking her from contesting in the parliamentary race.

Some of the OMCs have linked the increase to rising prices of crude oil on the international market and finished petroleum products. They also cite recent challenges with the cedi as a major contributing factor for the price adjustments.

Outlook for prices

Over the past two days, prices of crude oil on the international market has been dropping. Brent Crude was selling at US$73 to $99 on October 17, 2024 representing a significant drop from the over $80 a barrel some weeks ago.

Bagbin to rule on petition seeking removal of 4 MPs

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is expected to give a ruling on a petition seeking to remove four sitting MPs from the House, today, Thursday, October 17.

The MP for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison; MP for Suhum, Kojo Asante; Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah and NDC MP Amenfi Central, Peter Kwakye Ackah have all filed to contest as independent candidates in the upcoming December parliamentary polls.

It is for this reason that the Minority wants Bagbin to declare their seats vacant.

If Speaker Bagbin upholds the call to dismiss the MPs as was done to Andrew Asiamah in 2020, the NPP’s majority in Parliament could be at risk, as the Majority will now be the Minority which will give the NDC an upper hand in the chamber.

But one of the affected MPs, Peter Kwakye Ackah, says he is not worried about whatever ruling the Speaker of Parliament will give.

“I have not declared that I have left the party. I am only declaring my intention that in the next parliament, I would want to be an independent candidate. And so if somebody is also an NPP or NDC now, and he wants to go independent, he is not saying that he is leaving NPP.

“He is saying that in the next parliament, he doesn’t want to go with NPP again. I believe that is how I understand it.

“If you take any action, there should be a reaction. So you must be ready for it. Because if you say you are going independent and the Speaker rules that your seat is vacant, what can you do? You cannot challenge them because they have been imprisoned already,” he told Citi News.
