“If you mean it, do it now” – Naana Jane slams Bawumia over ‘plagiarized’ Women’s Bank promise

The Running Mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken on Vice President and the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his campaign promise to establish a specialized SME Bank solely for women.

Speaking at the Mallam Market during her campaign tour of the Greater Accra region on Monday, 19th August, 2024 Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang dared Dr. Bawumia to put his money where his mouth is, by setting up the women’s bank now, since the NPP is in power.

Prof Opoku Agyeman’s reaction following what the NDC describes as daylight copying of its yet to be officially announced campaign promises which had been well explained since she was outdoored in April this year.

“If you can do it, do it now,” she told the charged crowd. “You are in government, and yet you are making promises.” she told the charged crowd.

She emphasized that the NDC, after engaging stakeholders had already announced plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank which will provide direct access to capital, by way of “soft loans to women without collateral.”

Professor Opoku-Agyemang accused Dr. Bawumia of making empty promises, citing the NPP government’s failure to deliver.

She assured that the NDC’s Women’s Development Bank would provide tangible support to women.

The NPP has included in its manifesto plans to establish an SME Bank to meet the special financing needs of small and medium businesses, which employ over 80% of Ghanaians.

However, Professor Opoku-Agyemang is convinced that the promise as announced by the NPP flag bearer is another vote-buying gimmick that must be ignored.
