Mahama sympathises with GAF on helicopter tragedy

In a solemn visit to Burma Camp, President John Dramani Mahama, accompanied by Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and key government officials, met with the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) High Command to express profound condolences following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

President Mahama, accompanied by senior officials including Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Acting Defence Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Deputy Defence Minister Samuel Brogya Genfi, and Sports Minister Kofi Adams, signed the Book of Condolence at the Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters.

He described the deceased as gallant soldiers who served Ghana with dedication and honour, assuring that they would be accorded full state burials.

Pledging unwavering support to the military and bereaved families, the President acknowledged the profound national grief their loss represents.

CDS Lieutenant General William Agyapong acknowledged the national grief, noting: “Your Excellency, it has been a week of mourning, and it is so because of the loss of eight patriots of this country.” His words reflected the depth of sorrow across the armed forces.

The pilot’s sister, Leticia Anala, speaking on behalf of the families, offered heartfelt thanks to the President and GAF for the compassion shown, stating that the gesture had provided solace to them during their grief.

President Mahama, accompanied by the Vice President, key ministers, the Chief of Staff, and Ghana Armed Forces leaders, visited to convey condolences to the military and bereaved families.

He paid tribute to the fallen soldiers for their dedicated service, pledged full state burials, and assured continued support to the affected families.

The military acknowledged the shared national grief, while families expressed gratitude for the compassion and commitment to healing.

President Mahama’s visit underscored the weight of national grief and the importance of unity during times of crisis.

It was a powerful reminder of the nation’s shared sorrow, respect for its defenders, and collective resolve to heal together.
